Confidentiality and Privacy: Why do we require your personal information if you are our patient?
Personal information comprises your name, address, contact details and information specific for treating your problem. In addition, this information may be used to improved other patient management. Publication of treatment and patient management in scientific literature is performed by me in my capacity as the Dean of The Australian School of Advanced Medicine at Macquarie University. However, all personal detail are de-identified and you can be assured that your identity will be protected in any such publications. The aim of such publications is to improve management of patients with similar conditions to yourself.
Disclosure of your personal information to third parties if you are our patient.
As with most doctors we rely on third parties in health (other doctors, nurses and allied health) to carry out specialised activities. These third parties are acting on our behalf. Whilst personal information may be provided to these third parties to enable them to perform their agreed activities, they are bound by confidentiality and are prohibited for using the information for any other purpose.
